Zermatt is a tourist town in the canton of Valais.
It is located at the north of the base of the Matterhorn, at 1.620 meters of altitude. The inhabitants are about 5.500 but the effective number is dynamic due to the tourism.
In this part of the Switzerland the spoken language is german.
Zermatt is far about 10 km from the italian border but it can not be crossed because of the presence of a glacier with an altitude of over 3.000 meters.
Zermatt is a world-famous touristic place not only for its ski attractions but also for the particularitity of the town: it is a closed village, tourists can reach it only using trains and not swiss people can not buy pieces of real estate.
