This square took its name from Venezia Palace, which has been built by Pope Paolo II in 1455 while he was only a cardinal. The square was rearranged to allow the construction of Vittorio Emanuele II monument: Venezia Palace was moved and in front of it was built a new one, the "Assicurazioni Generali di Venezia" Palace.
