Luino is a pleasant little
town few kilometres far from the Italian-Swiss frontier. Luino is the typical
coast town of a Mediterranean lake: the impressive rows of centenarian
plane-trees surround the old part, planned in Napoleon's times, and the
ancient centre, in the merchants' district, preserves harmonious architectures.
Worth a visit are the Church of San Pietro in the country, whose high Romanesque
campanile (XI century) shows its whole stern beauty and the Church of San
Giuseppe whose eighteenth century organ, recently restored and a remarkable
altar-piece are valuable.
