Dongo was one of the first religious places of the lake Como. In the past this town became important from the economic point of view due to the Sant'Jorio mountain pass towards the Switzerland at 2004 meters of altitude, used to transport the iron mineral.
Now Dongo is an important touristic and industrial town.
